Pace University Network Services


TELEPHONE SYSTEM

I. DIALING INSTRUCTIONS

As of September 2003, Pace University began installing an Alcatel telephone system with networked in-house switches on multiple sites. The new telephone system requires 5-digit dialing for inter or intra campus calls. Operator switchboard service is provided from the Briarcliff Campus for all locations. Pace offers Direct Inward Dialing (DID) services, which means a person calling from outside the University may by-pass the switchboard if the ten-digit number is known. Some restricted areas may be issued a non-DID, or virtual, number as required. Non-DID numbers can make out-bound calls, but cannot be called from external (off-campus) sites.

III. PACE OPERATOR SERVICES

· Scheduled Hours: Pace telephone operator services are provided for the entire University from the Briarcliff switchboard. Their business hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm (8:30-5:00 summer sessions).

· Service Request: Repair requests relating to telephone and voice mail should be reported to the Helpdesk (DOIT or x3648) or visit doithelpdesk.pace.edu.

· Conference Calls: The Alcatel system allows conference calls to be initiated on each campus. For information on conference calls contact the Helpdesk (DOIT- x3648) or the chief operator at x22813. Pace contracts with Genesys Conferencing Center for conference calls that cannot be handled internally. A departmental account must be obtained for departments that have frequent off-hour and/or off-campus conference calls. Conference call charges are the responsibility of each department.

· Other Services: Requests for additional service, moves or changes should be submitted to the Helpdesk at doithelpdesk.pace.edu.

VOICE MAIL SYSTEM

· The Alcatel Voice Mail System enhances our voice communications with a backup for busy or unanswered calls. It allows the Pace community to receive phone messages in their confidential mailbox, which is passcode protected. Service requests relating to voice mail should be reported to the Helpdesk at doithelpdesk.pace.edu or DOIT (x3648).

· Mailboxes can be created or customized to meet specific individual/departmental needs. Contact the DoIT Helpdesk at doithelpdesk.pace.edu or phone DOIT (x3648).
