PAS 510 - Psychosocial Medicine
Course Description: This course will study the diverse cultural, ethical, and psychosocial issues that affect the medical interview and the evolving clinician- patient relationship. We will examine the powerful influence of the patient's mind and his social context on the development and management of disease. Accurate and meaningful history taking is an exceptionally important aspect of the clinical encounter; it is a core clinical skill. The medical interview determines the quality and quantity of data the health care professional has to work with in identifying and solving the patient's problems. To this end, we will utilize role-play interviews, round table discussion and small group interactions.
