Course Description: This course provides an historical examination of youth representation in American popular media. We will explore: representations of femininity and masculinity; intersections of race, class, sexuality, and gender in mediated constructions of young people; and audience participation in creating meaning from representations of gendered identities. We will also consider how such constructions impact our perceptions of youth and childhood as well as our own sense of self.
