Course Description:Introduction to major combinatorial circuits and sequential circuits including gates, decoders, registers, counters, and memory units. Data representation including number systems and their fixed and floating point representation. Microoperation, organization and design of a basic computer, and introduction to assembly language programming and microprogramming. Central processing unit, memory hierarchy, and interrupt processing. Instruction design tradeoff: RISC versus CISC. Pipeline, vector processing, multiprocessors, and multicomputers.
