Course Description: This course provides the student with a basic grounding in the laws and regulations governing nonprofit organizations. Content will include: overview of statutory scheme governing the formation, operation and dissolution of nonprofit corporations; examination of the powers, duties, and liabilities of directors, offices, and members of the nonprofit entity; legal framework governing the operation of unincorporated associations; and qualifying for and maintaining federal tax exempt status under Section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code and the rights and obligations attendant thereto.
