PUB 622A - Seminar in Books: Entrepreneurship in Publishing

Course Description: This course will examine the process of bringing creative ideas into reality within a publishing framework. Each student will select a project- a trade book or magazine company (or a single title or series) or a web site-that will be discussed and agreed upon in the first 2 weeks of class. All coursework will be centered on this project, which will be expanded upon and refined throughout the semester. Students will investigate every phase of publishing through their individual projects. We will also explore ways in which entrepreneurship can contribute to every aspect of the publishing process-sales, marketing, and editorial. There will be one or two Guest Speakers who will talk about starting their own businesses.
