Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, Film and Screen Studies, BA

The Bachelor in Arts in Film and Screen Studies major at Pace is at the forefront of the transformation of film study programs that is now taking place in the U.S.-- from the traditional study of film as a body of works to a focus on film as a methodological tool used in a variety of disciplines.

The FSS Major consists of 12 credits of required courses devoted to the analysis of film form, the historical development of cinematic traditions and technology, and the different ways that cinema has been accounted for philosophically, psychoanalytically, socially, and politically since the early 20th century. The remaining 24 credits of electives can be selected from FSS courses and an uncommonly broad range of courses in other departments and programs, including Anthropology, Sociology, Art, History, Latin American Studies, French, and Biology, allowing you to explore a variety of approaches to film and tailor the course of study to suit your interests and career goals.

Wherever your aspirations lie, our program's flexibility and faculty's individual guidance will help you achieve success in a wide range of career paths, such as public policy, leisure businesses, museums, education, editing, journalism, biomedicine, law, criminology, and forensics, as well as prepare you for advanced education in various fields.
