DEGREE PROGRAMS FOR ADULT STUDENTS
Pace University offers three degree programs specifically designed to meet the needs of adult students: the Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies, the Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies, and the online Bachelor of Science in Professional Communication Studies.
Besides providing flexibility in scheduling, including a number of online courses using Web-based instruction, these programs offer students the opportunity to transfer in a large number of credits earned at other institutions and also to receive college credits for knowledge accumulated as a result of life experience.
In the Liberal Studies and Professional Studies programs, when knowledge gained through Experiential Learning can be demonstrated, documented, evaluated, and deemed to be in accordance with the curriculum and standards of the University, students may receive up to 36 college credits toward either degree. The B.S. in Professional Communication Studies is particularly attractive to adults who already have accumulated an associated degree or its equivalent (64 credits) and are interested in an accelerated baccalaureate completion program that is offered online. For further information on these programs, please consult the academic advisor in the Office of the Dean, Dyson College of Arts and Sciences.
Professional Studies, BS
The B.S. in Professional Studies is a non-structured program for adult students who perhaps are in an established career field but have not yet completed an undergraduate degree. It is designed to accommodate up to 96 transfer, CLEP, and Experiential Learning credits. Regarding the latter type of credits, the program appreciates that adult students often have accumulated considerable knowledge as a result of their life experience. As a result, if such knowledge can be demonstrated, documented, evaluated, and deemed to be in accordance with the curriculum and standards of the University, the student may receive towards the degree up to 36 college credits.
The total number of credits required for the degree is 128: 60 general education liberal arts and science credits, 32 open elective credits, and 36 credits at any course level in an interdisciplinary major (24 credits in a single liberal arts or science discipline and 12 credits from any professional school (business, computer science, nursing, or education) or in a second discipline in liberal arts or science. Half of the major’s credits must be taken at Pace University.
The goal of this degree program is to provide both flexibility in course work and a professional or technical component for added marketability. At the same time students work closely with advisers from the Dyson College in order to construct a meaningful and coherent educational experience. Note that various courses applicable to this major are offered online, though students are free to choose online or on –site ones.
