The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Nursing Education prepares graduates to assume the leadership role of educator in a variety of educational and clinical practice settings. The specialty in education provides students with the latest concepts, theories, and ideas that support sound educational practice in today’s complex health care and learning environments.
Content will include adult learning theories; learning styles of today’s student; use of technology for learning and for teaching; and how to work within settings that have a great diversity of nurses, patients, and students. Educational policies and key legislative issues will be considered. Curriculum design, assessment and evaluation techniques, and strategies for successful clinical and didactic teaching will be studied.
Applicants must provide evidence that they have practiced for a minimum of one year full time or its equivalent as an RN in a well-defined clinical practice setting. Graduate core courses (NURS 621, 624, 610 & 655) starting in fall 2012 are offered in a hybrid format with three on campus meetings and the rest of the coursework completed online. Courses are offered on the Pleasantville and New York City campuses and vary according to the semester of study. Nursing Education specialty courses are offered online.
