Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, American Studies, BA

Our Bachelor of Arts in American Studies is an interdisciplinary study of American culture, typically involving two or more disciplines and offering a choice of five tracks to engage your scholarly interests and prepare you for a career in many areas. The New York, Law, American Arts, and Civic Engagement tracks are designed to appeal to your specific interests or career aspirations. The Individualized Studies track, with the greatest flexibility, allows you to design a major that more specifically fits your interests.

This program will help prepare you for many different careers, such as journalism, publishing, arts management, law, social work, and corporate positions. The key here is its interdisciplinary focus, an emphasis in thinking that many employers are looking for. Drawing connections between ideas, learning how to connect one discipline to another thematically, and taking the initiative to develop an interdisciplinary major are all signs of a creative and innovative thinker. The program is excellent preparation for post- graduate study as well as for a wide variety of careers.
