Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, Chemistry, BS

Chemistry is the central science; it is the foundation for understanding the natural world. Students wishing to enter into the fields of medicine, industry, pharmacy, environmental sciences, or education will benefit from a strong background in chemistry. This program is certified by the American Chemical Society and provides a unique opportunity to integrate classroom theory with laboratory experience. You will be carried far beyond textbook learning to get hands-on experience with modern laboratory instrumentation. Students have the opportunity to participate in research projects with faculty and present their research at national conferences.

Faculty have active research projects, such as developing a process that makes fabrics capable of resisting microbes (Dr. Rizzo), developing antimicrobial agents for parasites (Dr. Yarlett), molecular modeling (Dr. Anthanasopoulos), and Fluorogenic compounds for use as biomarkers (Dr. Z. Dai).
