Pace Welcomes Leslie Seidman

Leslie F. Seidman, former chairman of the Financial Accounting Standards Board, was named executive director of the new Center for Excellence in Financial Reporting. Seidman will lead discussion about current topics in financial reporting, lecture on campus, and mentor advanced accounting students. She will also consult with Pace faculty on relevant research and curricular topics. Check out Leslie's in-depth interview just published in the CPA Journal.

[Gear Up for the Tenth Annual Pace Pitch Contest]
Save the date! The Tenth Annual Pace Pitch Contest will be held on Thursday, April 17. Students compete by pitching entrepreneurial ideas to a panel of New York City business leaders. To help students prepare for the contest, the Entrepreneurship Lab will hold four mini-pitch competitions. The contest series is open to all Pace students.

Mock Trial Team's Outstanding Performance
Mock Trial Team's Outstanding Performance
The Pace Mock Trial team performed exceptionally at the American Mock Trial Association regional competitions held at the University of Delaware this month. Students Brendon Batterson (Lubin), Michelle Cooper (Lubin) and Bridget Winkler (Dyson) even won an entire trial. One of the witnesses, Jessie Huffman (Dyson), received an award for an Outstanding Witness Performance. Under the dedicated guidance of Lubin Professor James Castagna and alumnus Conrad Cantor, the team achieved these great accolades.

Take Advantage of Free Tax Assistance from VITA
Lubin's Beta Alpha Psi chapter is once again offering the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), providing free tax preparation to retirees and individuals with low-to-moderate income. BAP volunteers are fully trained and must pass IRS proficiency examinations to be certified as tax preparers. VITA will begin on February 20 and will be available every Monday, Thursday and Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. until April 10. New Inductees

  Pace Athletics Hall of Fame Recognizes New Inductees
The Pace Athletics Department will recognize this year's honorees at the 2014 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on March 28 at the Willow Ridge Country Club in Harrison, NY. Joseph Pastore, PhD, professor emeritus, management, has been named the Peter X. Finnerty Leadership Award recipient and he will be recognized at the ceremony. Dr. Pastore has been a long-time supporter of student-athletes at Pace and worked with Mr. Finnerty in his role as the Dean of the Lubin School of Business and University Provost in the 1970s and 1980s.

ALUMNI NEWS
In February, Dean Neil Braun travelled to California and hosted an alumni breakfast with Peter Alliegro '93 and Michael Savory '73. Marty Laffer '69 gave a presentation on forensic accounting. Dean Braun also met individually with prominent alumni in the entertainment, accounting and investment industries. With more than 1,500 Lubin alumni living in California and a growing number of Pace students hailing from the West Coast, the trip was an opportunity to reconnect with alumni and build the University’s national presence.

Next CCRP® Cycle Begins in March 2014
The Certified Compliance and Regulatory Professional (CCRP®) program will launch its fifth cycle on Thursday, March 13, 2014. This intensive 26-week session offers in-depth exposure to all aspects of governance, risk management, regulatory strategy and relevant regulations. The program also includes modules impacting non-banks, hedge funds and asset managers. Registration is open from now until March 3, 2014. Enhance Your Career with Pace University's Certified Financial Planning Program
Enhance your resume—and your career—with the Financial Planning Certificate Program. The program, offered by the Division of Continuing and Professional Education, fulfills the education requirements necessary to sit for the national CFP® Certification Examination. Classes begin the week of March 10.
Travel and Learn Through Lubin International Field Studies
During the spring semester, Lubin students will learn about global economies by travelling abroad. Through field study trips, students will travel to Brazil, China, Denmark and Sweden. They will visit corporations, government agencies, and universities. Next fall, field study trips will be offered to India, London/Brussels and Dubai/Doha. Scholarships from $1,500 to $2,000 are available to qualified students.
