Matthew Morey is professor of finance and New York Stock Exchange Scholar at the Lubin School of Business at Pace University. He has been at Pace since 2000.
Professor Morey graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in economics in 1989. He then moved on the University of California, Irvine, where he earned his Ph.D. in economics in the fall of 1993. After receiving his Ph.D., he was awarded a Fulbright fellowship to study finance and development economics in Bangladesh where he conducted research on the economic impact of the local stock market and foreign direct investment.
In terms of research, Professor Morey's main interests are in mutual funds and international finance. Most of his work on mutual funds has centered on the evaluation of mutual fund ratings and their implications for investors. This research has been published in some the leading finance/banking journals including the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Financial Analysts Journal, and Journal of Empirical Finance. Moreover, his work has been cited numerous times in the financial press including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Money Magazine, National Public Radio, and CNBC and has received outside funding from organizations such as TIAA-CREF and the Investment Management Consultant Association (IMCA). In 2003, he was awarded the Investment Management Consultant Association journalism award.
Professor Morey is currently on the editorial board of the Journal of Investment Consulting and an active referee for many other academic journals.
