The Town of Farmington, Connecticut’s historic district regulations state that its Historic District and Properties Commission will not deny a certificate of appropriateness for an exterior architectural feature, such as a solar energy system designed for the utilization of renewable resources, unless the Commission finds that the feature cannot be installed without substantially impairing the historic character and appearance of the district. The certificate of appropriateness for a solar energy system may require design modifications and location limitations that do not significantly impair the system’s effectiveness. City of Farmington, C.T., Code §§ 111-10, 111-26.
