DESCRIPTION:

Course Description: This course examines characteristics of speech-language development in linguistically and culturally diverse populations and will provide information related to diagnostic issues and therapeutic intervention with communicatively challenged children and adults in these populations. Students will learn competency assessment, principles of first and second language development, and impact of language, culture, and socioeconomic status on language acquisition and academic performance. Further, students learn appropriate assessment and intervention strategies for culturally and linguistically diverse clients/patients and ascertain evidence-based approaches to understanding multilingualism with related assessment and intervention implications.
