SAFE(R) ZONE TRAINING
Safe(r) Zone Training is an interactive and exploratory workshop that provides a foundation of knowledge to be an effective ally to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning and Asexual (LGBTQA) students, faculty and staff. In the training, participants will become familiar with Pace policies and resources, learn terminology, work through case studies and develop personal and departmental ally action plans. The training is interactive and participants will have opportunities to share and learn from each other as well to ask questions throughout. All members of your department, are encouraged to attend. We encourage departments to attend the trainings as a group to promote professional development. Participants will be given a Safe(r) Zone plaque upon completion of the training. Pace students, staff and faculty have said of the training: “I now feel like I am a more informed ally. It is one thing to be an ally and to support the community—but to be knowledgeable and informed as an ally is even more powerful!” “I really enjoyed hearing everyone’s stories of growing up, as well as learning about the terminology.” “The videos and written testimonies were extremely powerful, especially to someone like me who has never experienced discrimination based on my identity.”
