Lubin Awarded AACSB Accounting Accreditation
Lubin has joined the top three percent of business schools internationally with both business and accounting accreditation from AACSB International. "In higher education, this is like being knighted," said Pace University President David A. Caputo. FreshDirect CEO Visits as Executive in Residence
Dean Furbush, CEO of FreshDirect, the online fresh food manufacturing and delivery service, visited Lubin's New York City campus as an Executive in Residence on April 17. A PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Furbush lectured to graduate and undergraduate students on "People First, But Balance the Scorecard," tying together the importance of integrating excellent customer service with metrics.

Can You Hear Me Now?
Pace's chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the national honors fraternity for financial information professionals, celebrated its 10-year anniversary on Wednesday, April 19. Ivan Seidenberg '81, CEO, Verizon Communications Inc., was the keynote speaker and was inducted as an honorary member of Beta Alpha Psi. Samuel DiPiazza, CEO, PricewaterhouseCoopers, received the Outstanding Leadership Award. Dr. Marion Posey, the Lubin chapter's first faculty advisor and a recently retired accounting professor at Lubin, as well as alumna Jeanne Kovalski '05, were also honored.

Top Economist Speaks at Spring Banquet
Maria Fiorini Ramirez '72, one of the top economic forecasters in the country, was the keynote speaker at Lubin's 6th Annual Spring Banquet on March 29 at the New York City campus. This year's theme was "Lubin: Past, Present & Future." The event, a platform to exchange ideas, information and goals, was also an opportunity for students to network with industry professionals. Ms. Ramirez encouraged the students to pursue their dreams: "...every day you get up, be thankful, you can fix anything else!"

Tax Time Help
One of the most successful and largest programs of its kind in New York City, the Pace VITA program, sponsored by the University's Iota Lambda Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP), offered free tax help once again this tax season. To become qualified VITA volunteers, Beta Alpha Psi members received training from the IRS and sat for a basic proficiency examination. In 2006, 77 Lubin BAP volunteers logged in 900 hours, processed 458 returns yielding a total of $338,000 in refunds, and helped over 400 families.

[Research Day 2006] Research Day 2006
Lubin's Second Annual Research Day took place in March and was a great success. Sessions were designed to spark new research questions, encourage faculty collaboration, and promote the sharing of expertise for funding and publishing. The sessions were also organized around three research-centered themes: Expanding One's Research, Getting It Published and the Bigger Picture. Over a dozen different workshops were held throughout the day.

Lubin's chapter of Women in Corporate America (WICA) honored Donna Orender, president of the WNBA, the Women's National Basketball Association, during their annual Spring Networking Conference on April 11. Ms. Orender was honored for her accomplishments spanning a 20-year career in sports with the WNBA, PGA Tour, and ABC Sports. The conference provided opportunities for networking and addressing the specific concerns of women in business.

Spring Break Trips to China and Brazil
Many Lubin students had the opportunity to spend their spring break in either China or Brazil as part of international field study courses. Students on the Brazil trip visited Rio de Janeiro, Ihla Grande, and Parati, and had the opportunity to study environmentally sustainable business practices, ecotourism, and international business from various Brazilian company executives and government officials. The China field study visited Hong Kong and Beijing, and visited Chinese headquarters of top international companies, including Wong's Kong King and Morgan Stanley.

Iota Lambda, Lubin's chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the national honors fraternity for financial information professionals, swept all three categories of the Best Practices competition at Beta Alpha Psi's Atlantic Coast Regional Conference in Hartford, Connecticut, by placing first in Service Activities, Chapter Operation, and Strategic Planning. They will now move on to the national competition in Washington, DC, in August.

The Pace University chapter of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) was recognized as Chapter of the Year in the New York region at the 2006 ALPFA New York Gala that was held in November 2005. Thommy Guerrero, an ALPFA member, and also president of Beta Alpha Psi's Lubin chapter, was the recipient of the Student Leadership Award at the gala.

The Pace University Marketing Association (PUMA) received two awards at the Annual National American Marketing Association conference this year in the categories of Outstanding Chapter Planning and Outstanding Professional Development.

The Pace New York Ad Club developed its first pro bono advertising campaign. Its client is Animal Haven, an animal shelter that will be moving to downtown New York City in May. The campaign, consisting of posters and postcards, will encourage residents to adopt dogs and cats and to donate money for their care.

[Mentoring High School Student] Mentoring High School Students
Lubin's chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) conducted a financial literacy event for high school students involving 40 students participating in the Academy of Finance and Upward Bound programs. Beta Alpha Psi students conducted three informative presentations on financial management, credit cards, and financing for college. Also, through a partnership with Dominicans on Wall Street (DOWS), the Pace chapter of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) undertook a high school mentoring initiative.

Back by popular demand, Women@Lubin will be hosting a panel discussion on "How Do I Advance and Achieve?" on the Pleasantville campus on May 8 at 6 p.m. Panelists will discuss issues concerning personal as well as professional challenges facing women at work, corporate politics, and the skills needed for success in a corporate environment.
