Building a Brand
Famous vacuum cleaner manufacturer David Oreck, founder and chairman of the highly successful Oreck Corporation, was an Entrepreneur in Residence on the New York City campus on December 8, 2005. "Building a Brand" was Oreck's theme for his entrepreneurship lectures. Mr. Oreck also made mention of what the Oreck Corporation is doing to provide services for its employees on the Gulf Coast after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Lastly, he served as keynote speaker and a judge at the Second Annual Pace Pitch Contest on December 9th.

[Pace Pitch Contest]
The Second Annual Pace Pitch Contest
On December 9th, at the Second Annual Pace Pitch Contest, sponsored by JPMorganChase, aspiring entrepreneurs with innovative business ideas competed for cash prizes. Of the 40 entrepreneurs that entered the competition, 12 finalists were selected to pitch their business ideas to renowned judges, including David Oreck of Oreck Corporation, and representatives of Chase Small Business Financial Services and Gerson Lehrman Group. Yves Yakoubyan, a Lubin MBA student (pictured at left with judges Cynthia W. Massarsky and David Oreck), won the grand prize for his ingenious pitch. Lubin Lunch a Great Success
The 13th Annual Alumni Achievement Award Luncheon honoring Dan Davids '72, '74, president, The History Channel, became the most successful fundraiser in the event's history. The lunch, which was held on Friday, December 2nd, at One Chase Plaza in New York City, was sold out long before the event took place. The record-breaking proceeds from the luncheon will contribute to Lubin's alumni scholarship fund. Graduate student Siddhartha Bhattacharya '07 and undergraduate student Kamini Mankaney '06 received scholarships. [Susan Sokol] The Business of Fashion
On Wednesday, November 30, 2005, Susan Sokol, president, Vera Wang, visited the Lubin School as an Executive in Residence. Sokol, one of the fashion industry's most highly-regarded senior executives, spent a day on the Pace downtown New York City campus lecturing to students on "The Business of Fashion" and engaging the Pace community in a lively discussion about her company and the fashion industry.

NABA 'Reaching Excellence Through Leadership'
On Thursday, November 3rd, the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) held their annual Fall Dinner. Students networked with professionals in various business fields as well as Pace University NABA chapter members. This year's keynote speaker was Vera Stanley Mitchell, president of the NABA Eastern Region, who spoke on "Reaching Excellence Through Leadership." ALPFA Prepares Leaders for Global Market
"Leadership in Today's Global Market" was the topic for the fall networking reception organized by the Pace chapter of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) on October 26th. At the reception, the Pace ALPFA chapter received the good news that it had been selected as the "Chapter of the Year" in the New York region. Planning for the Future
"Planning for the Future of the Securities Industry" was the theme of the 12th Annual Securities Industry Conference presented by the William C. Freund Center for the Study of Securities Markets. The day-long conference, which took place on October 19, 2005, attracted an audience of over 130 industry insiders. At the luncheon, Lubin Dean Joseph R. [Steve Kerr] Lubin Leaders and Scholars Hosts Management Giant
On Wednesday, October 19th, Steve Kerr, the chief learning officer of Goldman Sachs, was the guest speaker at the Lubin Leaders and Scholars program's distinguished scholar series. He discussed leadership and leadership development, with a focus on the finance industry. Steve Kerr is uniquely recognized as both a giant in the professional and academic circles of management. MBA Career Fair a Huge Success
The Lubin Graduate Society (LGS) and Pace University's Office of Career Services hosted the Second Annual MBA Career Fair for current graduate students, as well as graduate Lubin alumni. Held on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, the Fair gave students and alumni an opportunity to meet over 60 employers and explore full-time career opportunities. According to feedback from both students and employers, the event was a ground-breaking success.

The Lubin School of Business debuted its newly-revamped Web site on October 6, 2005, the kick-off day of the Pace Centennial Celebration.
