Tom Jones, vice chairman of the International Accounting Standards Board, will give a keynote interview at the Second Annual Lubin Forum on Contemporary Accounting Issues on April 29, 2008, in midtown. The focus of the conference is "Global Integration of Accounting Standards: How Do We Get It Done?" Thomas J. Linsmeier, board member, Financial Accounting Standards Board, will also give a keynote interview. Deloitte CEO Honored at BAP Dinner
Barry Salzberg, CEO, Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, will be honored at the annual Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) dinner on April 3, 2008. Beta Alpha Psi is the international honor society for accounting, finance, and information systems majors. Mr. Salzberg was chosen to be honored by Lubin's chapter, Iota Lambda, because of his outstanding professional achievements, and he will be inducted as an honorary member of Beta Alpha Psi at the dinner. He announced his appointment as Deloitte CEO while visiting Lubin as an Executive in Residence last year.

Lubin Senior Garners Prestigious Award
Malerie Luciano, BBA '08, has been selected as one of 50 Most Promising Minority Students under the auspices of the American Advertising Federation (AAF). She was chosen on the basis of materials, essay and recommendations submitted in competition among a field of 1,000 applicants. Larry Chiagouris, PhD, associate professor of marketing, was her mentor during this process.

Figueroa Fund Awards 61 Students
As announced last summer in eLubin, thanks to the generosity of the Figueroa Family of Westchester, NY, a $1,000,000 fund was created to support an international travel experience for Lubin Leaders and Scholars honors students. Sixty-one Lubin students have been notified that they will be receiving awards from this fund, which will enable them to participate in field studies in Tanzania, Brazil, China, England, Panama, and Italy. Students will also receive awards for summer study and a semester abroad.

[New MS in Finance] New Masters in Finance Program
The New York State Education Department has just approved a new Lubin Masters in Finance for Professionals (MFP), a 36-credit program that will launch in fall 2008. The MFP will use the format and technology of our pioneering Web-assisted Executive MBA Program, and each eight week MFP online module will begin and end with a weekend residency. According to Kevin Wynne, PhD, associate professor of finance and economics and academic director of the program, "The MFP will take advantage of the best there is in streaming video technology to keep students and faculty connected, and will provide access to the most advanced financial databases available." New Minor in Internal Auditing
Beginning in fall 2008, Lubin is offering a minor in internal auditing to meet the incredible demand for internal auditors in the wake of Sarbanes-Oxley. Internal auditors are in short supply and high demand and the field of internal audit is one of the top five growing professions in corporate America. This minor is open to all Pace students and can lead to a strong and potentially lucrative career path.

[Nobel Winner Speaks at Lubin]
Robert Engle
Nobel Winner Speaks at Lubin
Robert Engle, PhD, lectured on "Risk and Globalization" as the featured speaker at Lubin's Eighth Annual Henry George Symposium in November 2007. A professor in the Management of Financial Services at New York University, Dr. Engle won the Nobel Prize in Economics (together with Clive Granger) for research analyzing how to see through non-stationary time-series. Dr. Engle's visit follows in the footsteps of three other Nobel Economists who lectured in this series: Robert Mundell, Joseph Stiglitz and Edmund Phelps.

Pepsi Challenge Encore in Pleasantville
Due to the overwhelming success of The Real Pepsi Challenge event hosted at the downtown NYC campus in the fall, an encore presentation will be offered on the Pleasantville campus this spring. The panel discussion will focus on Stephanie Capparell's book, The Real Pepsi Challenge and Richard Zannino, former CEO, Dow Jones, and Maurice Cox, vice president of Corporate Development & Diversity, Pepsi-Cola Company, will be panelists along with the author. The discussion will focus on historical and current issues relative to race and diversity in corporate America and will be moderated by faculty member Kevin Wynne.

Claudia Green, PhD, associate professor of management and coordinator of the Hospitality and Tourism concentration, is the newly appointed executive director of Lubin's Center for International Business Development (CIBD). In this role, she will direct and oversee the development and execution of all academic and non-academic programs consistent with the Center's mission of enhancing the global capabilities of students and faculty by providing opportunities for international academic and professional experiences of the highest quality.

Lewis Altest, PhD, associate professor of finance and president of L.J. Altfest & Co., was presented with The Charles R. Schwab IMPACT Award for Excellence in Independent Financial Advising by Charles Schwab. IMPACT Awards recognize contributions made by independent investment advisors and firms that have advanced the financial services landscape through their visionary leadership, operational excellence, and technology innovation. Dr. Altfest received a $25,000 donation from Schwab Institutional for a scholarship fund to be established in his name to benefit students in the Certified Financial Planning (CFP) program at Lubin.

Sarah pitched her idea to enhance the lives of the mentally disabled in the United States through the outlet of self expression. Joe pitched CollegeWikis.com, a rapidly-growing community information network. Pace's Pitch Contest is produced by clinical professor of management Bruce Bachenheimer, and is based on the elevator pitch concept popular among venture capitalists.

Dust off your clubs and hit a few buckets of balls because the 2008 Lubin Golf Classic is coming up on Tuesday, May 27, 2008. The Classic will again be held at Wheatley Hills Golf Club in East Williston, Long Island, and we will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Golf Classic this year. The Classic raises funds for undergraduate scholarships for outstanding Lubin students with financial need. Jim Anziano, BBA '77 and Tony DeLuca, BBA '84, will cochair the Golf Classic for this special anniversary year.

Alumni Achievement Award Luncheon Raises Over $400K
The 15th Annual Lubin Alumni Achievement Award Luncheon, honoring Jack Ribeiro, BBA '78, global managing partner, Global Financial Services Industry, Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, was held on December 7, 2007, and raised over $400K. Proceeds from this event fund scholarships for Lubin students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, financial need, and service to the University and/or community. Ten Lubin students received scholarships at the luncheon. JPMorgan Chase and Deloitte were title sponsors of the event.

Honors Program Garners Goldman Sachs Grant
The Lubin Leaders and Scholars Program (LLSP), Lubin's honors program, has received a $25,000 grant from the Goldman Sachs Foundation. The gift will support skills training workshops on topics such as leadership, development, communication, and team-building. The LLSP provides a select group of outstanding BBA students with an enhanced, challenging and rewarding academic experience to prepare them for leadership positions in business.
