Corporate Governance Conference - Finding the Road Back
"Financial Integrity and Investor Confidence: Finding the Road Back" was the topic of the Lubin Leaders Forum held in Midtown Manhattan on February 3, 2003. The keynote speaker was Congressman Michael Oxley (R-Ohio), co-author of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 that established the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.

Lubin Launches Degree Program in China
[MS in Accounting in Shanghai]
In conjunction with the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE), the Lubin School is offering an MS in Accounting program for accounting professionals in China who would like to extend their knowledge to U.S. accounting theory and practice. This is Lubin's first degree program offered in another country.

Are We Getting There?
To further Lubin's 2002-2007 Strategic Plan, a new Office of Planning and Assessment has been established under the leadership of management professor James C. Hall, who has been appointed Associate Dean of the Office. According to Hall, "While Lubin's plan says where we are going, assessment gives us a sense of whether we are getting there. Assessment data becomes the basis on which we improve."

Grooming Future Leaders and Scholars
Lubin is launching a new program designed to provide a select group of B.B.A. students with an enhanced and challenging academic experience that will prepare them for leadership positions in business. The Leaders and Scholars Program (LLSP), building upon the University's Honors Program (UHP), is focused primarily on juniors and seniors with a minimum CQPA of 3.30.

[Marie J. Toulantis] Marie J. Toulantis, CEO, Barnes & Noble.com, was an Executive in Residence at Pace University's downtown NYC campus this past fall. During a full day visit, she met with faculty and students at various receptions and meetings and lectured to undergraduate and graduate students.

Tenth Annual Alumni Achievement Award Luncheon
Mark Besca, '81, partner, Ernst & Young (E&Y), was the honoree at the Tenth Annual Alumni Achievement Award Luncheon this past December. You may recognize Mark from the Emmy Awards on CBS as the E&Y certifier of the results. A special tribute was given to law professor Ivan Fox, '54, who has been teaching at Lubin for 43 years!

Bleser and Richel Join Advisory Board
Philip F. Blesser, '81, '84, '94, senior VP and division executive, JPMorganChase, and Victor M. Richel, vice chairman of the board, Independence Community Bank Corp., have been tapped to join the Lubin Advisory Board. The Lubin Advisory Board of senior executives assists the administration in shaping strategies and initiatives that reflect contemporary relevance and best practices.

$25K from SAP
SAP, the world's largest enterprise software manufacturer, awarded $25,000 to three Lubin faculty to develop a plug-and-play software module demonstrating the value of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).

Sloan Grant Secured
The Sloan Foundation has awarded a grant to Pace (the higher learning institute closest to Ground Zero) that will fund a large number of new Web-assisted core classes at the Lubin School. These classes, which meet for approximately one-half the number of sessions of standard-format evening classes, will accommodate working students, particularly those affected by the corporate disruptions after 9/11.
