Deloitte CEO to Become Honorary BAP Member
Barry Salzberg, CEO, Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, will be honored at the annual Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) dinner on April 21. Mr. Salzberg was chosen to be honored by Lubin's chapter, Iota Lambda, because of his outstanding professional achievements, and he will be inducted as an honorary member of Beta Alpha Psi at the dinner. Beta Alpha Psi is the international honor society for accounting, finance, and information systems majors. He announced his appointment as Deloitte CEO while visiting Lubin as an Executive in Residence last year.

Philip F. Bleser, AAS '81, BBA '84, MBA '94, managing director and CEO, Mid-Corporate Banking Group, JPMorgan Chase & Co., will be honored at the Eighth Annual Spring Banquet on March 31. He will receive the Legacy Award acknowledging his outstanding career achievements and inspiration to future business professionals. The banquet is a networking conference organized by several Pace University student organizations and provides a forum in which professionals from various business fields can share their experiences and knowledge with Pace students. This year's theme is "Pioneers of Today and Tomorrow."

Real Pepsi Challenge Encore
Because of the overwhelming success of Lubin's "The Real Pepsi Challenge" event in NYC last fall, an encore presentation will take place on April 10 on Pace's Pleasantville campus. The panel discussion will again focus on Stephanie Capparell's book, The Real Pepsi Challenge, which details the history of one of the first all-black sales teams in corporate America, as well as current issues of diversity in business. Panelists will include the author; Maurice Cox, vice president of Corporate Development and Diversity at Pepsi; Richard F. Zannino MBA '84, former CEO of Dow Jones; and faculty moderator Kevin Wynne.

[Fulbright Finalists from Lubin] Fulbright Finalists from Lubin
Two students and one alumna from the Lubin School are among the nine Pace finalists for the 2008 Fulbright Awards. The students are awaiting acceptance from prospective host countries. Tom Kelly (management) selected Latvia; Pjeter Dushku (finance) applied for Spain; and alumna FitzAnn Reid (management) selected Australia. Congratulations to all our Pace finalists. One of the most sought after credentials in the financial planning field is the CFP designation. Lubin's Center for Professional Education offers a 10-week program to prepare students to sit for the Certified Financial Planner's Examination and earn this designation. The Classic will again be held at Wheatley Hills Golf Club in East Williston, Long Island, and we will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Golf Classic. Lubin Prof Publishes First Handbook on Business Wisdom
The elusive topic of wisdom is under increasing study by social scientists, according to a New York Times Magazine cover story last spring. Now the first handbook linking wisdom studies to business has been published by Eric H. Kessler, PhD, professor of management, and James R. Bailey, PhD, a professor at the George Washington University School of Business. The handbook is a 579-page compendium of original essays by globally-renowned business thinkers. Kessler believes it is the first systematic attempt to apply recent insights to organizations and management decision making.

Michael Cangemi, BBA '70, president and CEO, Financial Executives International (FEI), has joined the Lubin Advisory Board. Cangemi was the 2003 honoree at Lubin's Alumni Achievement Award Luncheon, which raises funds for scholarships for outstanding students with financial need. He has also served previously on Lubin's Accounting Advisory Board and was recently named among Accounting Today's Top 100 Most Influential People; the publication is the premier news vehicle for the tax and accounting community.

Fifth Annual Business Plan Competition
The Pace University Business Plan Competition, sponsored in conjunction with the Wilson Center for Social Entrepreneurship and the MIT Enterprise Forum of New York City, will take place on April 23. This competition is held to foster entrepreneurial spirit among students, promote practical business skills, and encourage the creation of new ventures. The competition is open to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students, and also recent Pace alumni.

Don't Fret Tax Season - VITA Will Help
The Iota Lambda chapter of Beta Alpha Psi at Lubin runs one of the most successful and largest Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs in New York City. Annually, the VITA Program offers free tax help to low-to-moderate-income (under $50,000) individuals. Student volunteers are trained by the IRS and must pass an IRS certification test before preparing returns. Last year, VITA volunteers prepared over 300 tax returns for the public. This year's goal is to prepare over 400 tax returns.

Leadership Retreat for Lubin Leaders
In January, fifty students from the Lubin Leaders and Scholars honors program convened for a full-day leadership retreat sponsored by a grant from Goldman Sachs. At the leadership workshops facilitated by Dale Carnegie Training, all students received the book Leader to Leader, a compilation of leadership writings by well-known authors, and participated in a series of interactive workshops stressing leadership skills. All students received a course completion certificate for the "Leader in You" course and their responses were overwhelmingly positive about the knowledge they gained as a result of attending the retreat.

[Field Studies Span the Globe]

Field Studies Span the Globe
During spring break, undergraduate and graduate students visited Brazil, China, and Tanzania. Each trip provides extensive interaction with local businesses and dignitaries; for instance MBA students on the Tanzania trip visited a coffee entrepreneur, a media mogul, an ambassador, and a social entrepreneurship organization. Lubin will also offer field study trips to Zurich and Milan over the summer for the second consecutive year.

Students from FEI University, Sweden, and Tokyo Keizai University, Japan, visited Lubin's Center for International Business Development (CIBD) and participated in customized programs organized by the Lubin School in fall 2007 and early spring 2008, respectively. Recently, the CIBD signed a contract with EBS Paris for a customized program in spring 2009. Through the Figueroa Family fund, the CIBD also provided $90,000 in scholarships to 64 students for spring and summer 2008 to undertake international field studies and study abroad programs.
