A new CEO series is coming to the Lubin School and will kick off on November 25 with Dick Parsons, Chairman, Time Warner. The event will be held in the Schimmel Theater, from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., at the New York City campus. The series will be hosted by Stephen H. Baum, an executive coach to senior management leaders and former partner with global management consultants, Booz Allen & Hamilton. Pace Named Top 50 College for Earnings Potential
A new Education and Salary Report by PayScale reveals that an undergraduate diploma from Pace University can open the door to the highest salaries. In a BusinessWeek article, "The Colleges with the Biggest Returns," Pace graduates are said to earn a starting median salary of $53,200, only a few thousand less than Yale graduates. The article also lists a mid-career median salary of $89,700 and top incomes of $187,000 for Pace graduates. According to the article, "the Ivy League isn't the only path to big bucks." Other schools listed along with Pace include Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford and Columbia.

  New Masters in Finance for Professionals
Lubin will be offering a new Masters in Finance for Professionals (MFP), a 36-credit program that will launch in spring 2009. The MFP will use the format and technology of the highly successful and pioneering Web-assisted Executive MBA Program (EMBA), and each eight-week MFP online module will begin and end with a weekend residency. The MFP program is specifically targeted toward professionals working in the field of finance who want to enrich their knowledge of the discipline. Rise of Mutual Funds Author to Visit
Matthew P. Fink, author of The Rise of Mutual Funds - An Insider's View, will be the featured guest at a breakfast session hosted by Lubin's William C. Freund Center for the Study of Securities Markets. Mr. Fink will discuss, sign copies, and answer questions about his book on November 25 on the New York City campus. Fink was president of the Investment Company Institute, the national association of the mutual fund industry, from 1991 to 2004. The Fifth Annual Pace Pitch Contest will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2008. The contest is being presented in association with the Wilson Center for Social Entrepreneurship and the MIT Enterprise Forum of New York City. A pitch is an extremely concise presentation of an entrepreneur's idea, business model, marketing strategy, competitive analysis, and financial plan, which is delivered to potential investors. This contest has proven to be an excellent means of engaging students and fostering the pursuit of entrepreneurial activities.

  Memorial Service for Andrew Varanelli, Jr., EDD
A memorial service was held on Monday, September 29, at Pace's Eddie Layton Student Union for Andrew (Andy) Varanelli, Jr., EDD. Varanelli passed away May 17, 2008. He was the director of Information Systems and Technology, a professor of management, a member of the Lubin faculty and administration, and an alumnus of the Lubin School. During his tenure at Lubin, he also served as chair of the Management and Management Science department and was one of the pioneering forces behind Lubin's eMBA@PACE program.

Financial Crimes Meet Savvy Students
What does Pace have to do with a business owner skimming from his company, a bar owner keeping a second set of books, an identity theft scheme, a drug trafficker, a constitutionally challenged "non taxpayer," and a race track pari-mutuel teller kickback scheme? These are some of the hypothetical noir situations that will be faced by 26 students from Pace University and Queens College on October 3, when they become honorary "IRS Special Agents for a Day" in a unique one-day program organized by the New York Field Office Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service.

  Figueroa Fund Benefits Students and Faculty
The Figueroa Family Fund was created to benefit students by making funds available for international field study and study abroad opportunities. For the seven students who received scholarships to study abroad during the fall 2008 semester, destinations span Europe and Asia. The Figueroa Family Fund also provided faculty the means of exploring new practical academic research in international areas. The Fund will continue to help students and faculty with generous aid for travel in future semesters.

Golf Classic is Great Success
The 10th Annual Lubin School of Business Golf Classic was held at Wheatley Hills Golf Club in East Williston, Long Island, on May 27, 2008, and raised over $200,000. Ten undergraduate Lubin students received scholarships at the Classic. Jim Anziano, BBA '77, received the Lubin Golf Classic Alumni Award and Dell Inc. received the Lubin Golf Classic Award. Over 120 golfers participated including alumni and other corporate friends of Lubin and enjoyed great weather and a spectacular day on the links.

[Mountains Beyond Mountains]   Mountains Beyond Mountains Author to Visit Pace
Following the success of last summer's initial Lubin freshman reading assignment The Namesake, this year all Pace freshman were assigned to read Mountains Beyond Mountains: Healing the World: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, by Tracy Kidder. Kidder will address the University student body at Convocation on October 24 at the Goldstein Fitness Center on the Pleasantville campus. This book chronicles Dr. Farmer's humanitarian mission and is an incredible story of personal commitment and perseverance to help those who are most in need. As done last year, students will use the book as the foundation for discussions throughout their first year.

  NABA Chapter Among Top Competitors
This year, Lubin's student chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA) placed second in the Student Chapter Reporting Evaluation Program (SCREP). Each year the chapter competes for the quality, quantity, and depth of their chapter activities that have enabled them to be role models for other national school chapters. At Pace, the chapter offers an array of events to its members throughout the year, teaching personal and professional skills, and providing great opportunities to network with NABA professionals from Fortune 500 companies.
