The Lubin School of Business at Pace University announces the appointment of Tom Jones as Director of Lubin's Center for the Study of International Accounting Standards and Distinguished Professor (in residence) in the Practice of International Accounting."We are very pleased that someone of Tom's global stature and professional experience has decided to join the Lubin School of Business," said Dean Joe Baczko. "He brings extensive senior policy making background in the important areas of international financial reporting standards, which will advance the thought-leadership position and activities of our Center." "Tom will teach at the graduate level and help develop relevant course work and research on the internationalization of accounting standards," said accounting chair, Rudy Jacob.

CNBC's Charlie Gasparino to Visit Pace
Pace's President Steve Friedman will interview CNBC's Charlie Gasparino '85, on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, from 7:00-9:00 p.m in the Student Union at One Pace Plaza. He will be providing insights from his book, The Sellout, the premise of which is how Wall Street greed and mismanagement destroyed the global financial system. [Too Big To Fail] Too Big To Fail
Andrew Ross Sorkin, New York Times' chief mergers and acquisitions reporter and columnist, will lecture on his newly-released book Too Big To Fail, the inside story of how Wall Street and Washington fought to save the financial system. The lecture will be held in the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts Lobby on December 2 at 6:00 p.m. at Pace's downtown campus. Sorkin will be available to sign copies of his book after the lecture. Michael Clinton, MBA '83, Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer and Publishing Director, Hearst Magazines, will be honored at the 17th Annual Lubin Alumni Achievement Award Luncheon on Friday, December 4, 2009. [IBM Fellow Executive in Residence]   IBM Fellow Executive in Residence
Nicholas M. Donofrio, IBM Fellow and (Retired) Executive Vice President, Innovation and Technology, IBM, was an Executive in Residence on the Pleasantville campus on Monday, November 9. Mr. Donofrio lectured to undergraduate students and provided insights on "Creating Real and Lasting Value in the 21st Century." He advised students to "be a problem-solver, be a life-long learner, and seek opportunities to broaden yourself."

  Richmond County Savings Donates $100K to Pace
An endowed scholarship fund of $100,000 to support Pace students from Staten Island has been created by the Richmond County Savings Foundation. The first scholarship recipient is Stephen Socci, a Lubin BBA/MBA accounting major from Willowbrook, Staten Island. Stephen took an accounting course while still at Monsignor Farrell High School and earned the highest grade in the class. One of our most distinguished Lubin alumni, Joseph R. Ficalora, '78, '79, is a board member of the Foundation and is the president, CEO and a director of New York Community Bancorp, Inc.

Dan Bena Talks Sustainability at Pace
Dan Bena, director of Sustainable Development, Health, Safety and Environment at PepsiCo, visited Pace to talk about PepsiCo's international sustainability initiatives. Mr. Bena serves on the board of several non-profit organizations and has done extensive work in trying to ensure that clean drinking water is available worldwide. The event, which was held on the New York City campus and sponsored by Lubin's Center for Global Business Programs on October 28, was open to the entire Pace Community.

[BAP Strikes Gold]   BAP Strikes Gold!
Lubin's Iota Lambda chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP), the national scholastic and professional organization for financial information students and professionals, received the Gold Chapter Award at the BAP 2009 National Conference held in August 2009. The chapter was among the top 14 schools to be chosen for this recognition. Lubin's Iota Lambda chapter also competed for the Ernst & Young Diversity Award and was honored with the award this past spring. This award recognizes the top ten chapters who have made an impact on "diversity" within Beta Alpha Psi and/or their respective school/community.

[Amazon Kindle at Pace]   Amazon Kindle at Pace
Pace University has been selected as one of seven colleges and universities to pilot test Amazon's new Kindle DX reader. The participating students, enrolled in Lubin, Dyson and Lienhard courses, have been loaned the Kindle wireless device with their textbooks, and in some cases, other material loaded on it. Dr. Karen Berger, associate dean and director of Lubin Undergraduate Programs and professor of Marketing, whose class is participating in the pilot, says that this experiment puts Pace on the cutting edge of a technology that may help provide students with textbooks at a significantly lower cost.

EMBA Celebrates 40th Anniversary
Lubin is proud to announce the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Executive MBA program on Friday, November 20, at a reception at the Downtown Conference Center at Pace University. The event is from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., in the Executive Dining Room on the 18th floor of the 157 William Street building. Over 1,100 EMBA alumni, current students, and past and present faculty and staff have been invited. Lubin's Executive MBA program is the third oldest in the world, behind only the programs at the University of Chicago and Columbia.
